The PPM-PNC presidential candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives.
The PPM-PNC coalition has repeatedly claimed that Indian military personnel are stationed in the Maldives in such a way that it compromises the country's independence. However, the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is seeking re-election, maintain that there are no foreign troops in the Maldives for military purposes.
Speaking to reporters at an ongoing campaign activity held to conclude his campaign for the second round, Dr. Muizzu implored the people to vote for him to safeguard the country's independence. He pledged to work toward achieving the people's goals and providing the type of government they desire.
“If the people give me the opportunity, I will establish peace and safeguard our freedom,” Muizzu said.
Dr. Muizzu, who secured 46 percent of the votes in the first round of the presidential election, expressed confidence that he would receive even more votes in the second round.
