Pres-Elect Dr. Muizzu pledges equality and stability for Maldives

President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said every Maldivian citizen is equal before his eyes and that he would not discriminate against any citizen.

Dr. Muizzu secured victory in the Maldives' presidential election on September 30, winning against incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed in the second round of voting.

In his inaugural press conference as President-Elect, Dr. Mouizzu said all citizens have equal rights, regardless of their political affiliation.

"Every Maldivian citizen is equal before me. No matter what party they belong to, they are beloved Maldivian citizens before me, with equal rights and equal standing in everything," Muizzu said.

Dr. Muizu warned that there would be people seeking to sow unrest and disrupt the nation's interests. He urged the public not to allow any disruptions that could jeopardize the peace and stability of the country. He further assured the nation that he would govern in accordance with the desires of the people and pledged his unwavering dedication to safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives with honesty, sincerity, and integrity.

Muizzu added that all government ministries and institutions would continue their work in accordance with the law during the transitional period, ensuring readiness for his assumption of power on November 17. He expressed his intent to initiate official work swiftly the very same day.

“The work commencing on that day will progress rapidly, and I am eager to work with a dedicated team, working day and night to shape our country as the people want,” he said.
