Dr. Muizzu calls on MDP to be a responsible opposition party

President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to be a responsible opposition party once the government changes. Muizzu requested at a rally held on Monday night, where he thanked the citizens for their support in the presidential election.

This request came after outgoing President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made two specific requests to Dr. Muizzu earlier in the day. President Solih had urged Dr. Muizzu to focus on good governance and continuing ongoing development projects when he takes office.

In response to President Solih's request, Dr. Muizzu expressed his desire for the MDP to be a responsible opposition party during his term. He emphasized the importance of an opposition party in holding the government accountable and promoting constructive criticism.

Dr. Muizzu said even if the opposition criticizes the government's policies, opinions must be aligned on major national issues. This is the practice even in the UK, a country that has close ties to the MDP leadership, he said.

Dr.Muizzu said the country needs peace, and the people desire the same. He said he would always welcome the MDP as a responsible opposition party.
