Maldives' fish exports surge 16 percent in August

The Maldives' fish exports increased by 16 percent in August this year compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the country exported 57,716 metric tonnes of fish as of August this year, compared to 49,749 metric tonnes during the same period last year.

Among the various types of fish exports, Skipjack Tuna was the most prominent, with 41,052 metric tonnes exported. Additionally, 5,334 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna and 9,762 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish were exported.

According to the MMA, the price of fish in the international market has increased this year compared to last year. The price of skipjack tuna in the international market was MVR 30.1 per kg in August this year as against MVR 24.7 per kg in August last year.
