The Democrats set to contest all constituencies in upcoming Parliamentary Elections

The Democrats, following their interim council meeting today, has announced their intent to contest all constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Sharing information about the council meeting with reporters, The Democrats' founder MP Hassan Latheef said although the party will be contesting all constituencies, the party would continue its efforts to maintain the number of MPs at a certain number.

“Our party will continue to work to reduce the composition of the Parliament in the proposed amendment to the Constitution,” Latheef said.

There are currently 87 members in the Parliament, and this number is set to increase to 93 members in the next year's parliamentary elections due to population growth. The Democrats' member, Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, has proposed a constitutional amendment aimed at reducing the number of Parliament members to 76.
