The region designated for an airport development project in F. Magoodhoo has been separated from the island's administrative jurisdiction.
The jurisdiction of the Magoodhoo administrative sector was changed by a presidential decree issued by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday. The airport area has been separated from the administrative authority of Magoodhoo, falling under the President's purview for defining city councils' and island councils' jurisdictions.
The Magoodhoo Airport project was awarded to MTCC in October last year, with an allocated budget of MVR 231.5 million. The project is set to be completed within 550 days. The scope of the project includes the construction of a 1,500-meter-long, 30-meter-wide runway, a taxiway, apron, firepad, road, passenger terminal building, fire station equipped with a control tower, security measures such as fencing, gates, and security checkpoints, as well as the installation of navigational equipment and ground handling machinery.
