No decisions made regarding second round land and flat applications

The President-Elect's Office has said no decisions have yet been made concerning the applications submitted for the second round of the outgoing government's "Gedhoruveriyaa" and "Binveriyaa" housing schemes.

The opportunity to apply for land allocation in the second round of the current government's Binveriyaa Scheme was opened to individuals who have been living in Male' for more than 20 years. Similarly, the second round of applications for flats in the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme was made available to individuals residing in the city for over 15 years.

The application period for the second round of these schemes concluded on Tuesday, with a total of 19,347 applications submitted for land and 21,247 applications for flats.

President-elect Dr. Muizzu's spokesperson, Mohamed Firzul Abdullah Khaleel, was asked by a reporter at a press conference held Wednesday how the incoming government would deal with the applications submitted for the second round of schemes.

In response, Firzul said that no official decisions had been made yet regarding the second round of application forms. However, discussions are actively underway with relevant authorities to chart the course of action. He added that detailed information could not be provided at this time due to the ongoing discussions.

"The president-elect's commitment was tied to the list that had been published earlier [in the first round]. We are currently engaged in discussions regarding the applications related to the second announcement," Firzul said.

During the presidential election campaign, the biggest assurance given to the people by President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was that he would not take away any land or flats given to anyone by this government. He also assured that he would not remove anyone from any position other than a political position.
