The Maldives has imported oil and perishable goods worth MVR 16 billion as of September this year.
According to the Central Bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the Maldives imported goods worth MVR 39.4 billion from January to September this year. This includes oil imports worth MVR 8.5 billion and food items worth MVR 7.4 billion.
Statistics show the value of imported fruits, vegetables, root vegetables, and spices was MVR 1.9 million during this period. Additionally, meat, milk, and eggs valued at MVR 2.4 million were also imported.
Diesel stands out as the primary oil product import, accounting for a significant expenditure of MVR 6.6 billion. Petrol, worth MVR one million, and aviation gas, valued at MVR 400 million, have also been imported.
The Maldives has also imported goods worth MVR 4.3 billion in timber, metal, and cement.
The largest imports include electrical, electronic and machinery and accessories as well as furniture.
