Deputy Speaker Eva resigns amidst no-confidence controversy

Deputy Parliament Speaker Eva Abdullah has resigned from the position.

Eva resigned as Deputy Speaker after speaking at Sunday's Parliament sitting in defense of the no-confidence motion against her. Eva's resignation letter was officially received by the Parliament and read aloud during the session.

The submission of the resignation letter prompted some members to call for a vote on the motion, as Eva had given her statement regarding the motion. However, Speaker Mohamed Aslam, who presided over the session, decided not to proceed with the motion.

"According to the Parliament rules, as soon as the Speaker receives a resignation letter, their resignation is confirmed. I do not see any further need for a resignation case after the resignation," Aslam said.

The motion to remove Eva from the Deputy Speaker post was initially introduced on November 13. Notably, a similar motion was filed on May 16 but was later withdrawn just ahead of the second round of the presidential election.
