President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been appointed the leader of the PPM-PNC Coalition. The decision was taken unanimously at the PPM-PNC joint Senate meeting held after the official opening of the new PNC office on Wednesday night.
Upon President Dr. Muizzu's victory in the presidential election, the main-ruling Peoples' National Congress (PNC) appointed President Dr. Muizzu as the party's President and Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef as the party's Vice President. The former PNC President, Abdul Raheem Abdulla is now the party's Chairperson.
Until recently, the PPM-PNC coalition leader was former President Abdulla Yameen. However, on November 23, Yameen left PNC's sister party, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to create his own political party amid internal disagreements.
