Maldives surpasses 2019-record figure, on track to achieve 1.8 mln arrival target

The Maldives has achieved its highest-ever number of tourist arrivals, marking significant progress toward reaching its annual tourism target.

The Maldives registered its second-highest tally of tourist arrivals in 2019, welcoming 1,702,831 visitors. By December 12 this year, this figure has already been surpassed with 19 days still remaining in the year. As of December 12, 1,752,706 have been recorded, the highest recorded figure in its history.

The Maldives' tourist arrival target for this year is 1.8 million. As of December 12, only about 47,000 more tourists are needed to meet this goal. While 5,700 tourists visit the Maldives daily on average, both the government and tourism experts believe that the Maldives' arrival target for this year will be achieved.

Russia is currently the top source market for Maldives tourism, followed by India in second place and China in third.

The Maldives currently has 1,135 tourism facilities including resorts, guest houses, hotels, and safaris. The current total bed capacity is 61,207.
