MDP's PG Leader proposes individual approval process for Cabinet ministers

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Parliamentary Group Leader Mohamed Rasheed Hussain (Bigey) has proposed that each minister in the Cabinet undergo a separate approval process, with a three-line whip for each minister.

According to some MDP MPs, the party wishes to ask for a vote on each minister separately because it does not want to approve some of the ministers in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's newly formed cabinet. MDP's PG Leader Bigey said while discussions are underway on issuing a three-line whip for each minister, no decision has been reached thus far.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet is comprised of 22 cabinet ministers, including three female ministers and a blend of individuals with both past government experience and newcomers. Some of the appointments have been met with skepticism from the public.

A decision on the approval of the ministers will be taken on Monday, the last sitting of the last session of the parliament for this year.

Among the ministers that some MDP MPs express reluctance to approve are Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidhar, and Local Government Authority Minister Adam Shareef.
