Pres Dr. Muizzu pledges to donate salary increment to a social fund

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed his disinterest in a salary increment amid the Parliament's Public Finance Committee's decision to approve salary increments for the state's highest officials.

The Public Finance Committee, on Tuesday, approved salary hikes for various officials, including members of parliament, the President, Vice President, Cabinet ministers, heads of government-owned companies, judges, mayors, and councilors.

In a post on social media platform X, President Dr. Muizzu said the parliamentary committee's decision was made without consultation with the Administration. He said he would donate any salary increment resulting from the decision to a social fund, such as the 'Kudakudhinge Hiyaa' children's shelter.

The President's Office has also confirmed that the decision was not made in consultation with the government and that it did not align with the President's position on the matter.
