Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef departs from MDP

The Parliament's Maradhoo MP Ibrahim 'Mavota' Shareef has left the opposing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Shareef left the MDP after informing the MDP parliamentary group members that he was withdrawing from all political activities. He could not be reached for comment.

According to some sources, MP Shareef does not intend to seek re-election for his parliamentary seat in the upcoming election.

Shareef played a crucial role in the country's reform movement and is one of the oldest serving members of Parliament. He was also a member of the Addu Atoll in the special assembly that drafted the current Green Constitution.
