The Election Commission (EC) has announced that they will begin accepting applications to contest in the parliamentary elections starting January 30.
EC's Vice-President Ismail Habeeb today said those interested in contesting the election can submit their candidacy papers from January 30 to February 14.
EC has decided to hold the parliamentary elections on March 17, during the first week of Ramadan. A total of 284,327 people are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections. While there are 87 members in the current 19th Parliament, 93 members will be elected for the next parliament. Some political parties have already opened applications to contest party primaries.
