Maldives Meteorological Service has said the heaviest rainfall was recorded in Male' City during Friday's showers.
According to the Met Office, 159.3 mm of rain fell in Male' City alone yesterday. While a rainfall of 105.4 mm was recorded in airport island Hulhule, an equivalent amount was recorded in neighbouring Hulhumale'.
From among the aolls, the highest rainfall was recorded in Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Dhiyamigili, L. Maamendhoo and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said 144 households in Male' City sought assistance due to flooding. Of these, NDMA provided sandbagging to secure the exterior of 91 homes. Additionally, a total of 57 residents from 8 households were relocated to temporary shelters.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is actively working to recede water levels in Male' City using pumps.
