Male' City Council's major projects to be transferred to Construction Ministry

Male' City Council has decided to assign some of its major projects to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and implement the projects under the ministry's mandate.

The decision was taken at the city council meeting held Wednesday, where the government proposed to transfer major projects to the Construction Ministry, which would then implement the projects as per the city council's requirements. The proposal was presented by President's Office Corporate Development Minister Mohamed Shahid.

“I am proposing that we temporarily transfer the management of these projects to the relevant ministry to expedite these projects,” Shahid said.

The government's proposal includes some projects worth more than MVR 100 million. If the projects are not started within six months, the projects will be taken back to the city council. Shahid said although the council would not spend on some projects, technical details demand specialized attention during implementation.

Among the projects slated for government implementation are the development of a fish market, a local market, and parking buildings.
