Reconstruction of roads in Male' and Villimale' has commenced.
The Construction Ministry confirmed that the reconstruction work had started in the two areas but did not give a specific date for when the project kicked off. The initial stage of the project is being carried out in Villimale'.
The road construction project is funded through USD 130 million in free aid from the Chinese government. The project was finalized between the two governments during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's first visit to China after taking office. A Chinese team recently arrived in the Maldives to conduct the survey for the project and concluded the work last Thursday.
Under the project, the roads in Male' and Villimale' will be paved with tar and upgraded with stormwater management systems and fire hydrant systems.
