STO assures smooth onion imports from India amid restrictions

The State Trading Organization (STO) has said that there is no difficulty in importing onions from India.

India had imposed a ban on onion exports from December last year until March this year. However, certain countries continue to receive onions through special permits granted by relevant Indian authorities.

STO's comments regarding onion import come amid concerns that the Maldives has not been included in the list of countries allowed to export onions from India.

Addressing the concerns, STO reassured the public that there are no difficulties in procuring onions from India and affirmed its commitment to maintaining a stable onion supply in the Maldivian market. The organization highlighted a decline in onion prices in the Maldivian market over the past two months.

STO assured that the company is fully prepared to ensure that there is no shortage of basic food items during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
