VIA introduces "Smart Gate" service

Velana International Airport (VIA) has launched its "smart gate" service.

The service was launched by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)'s CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and Commissioner General of Customs Yoosuf Maniu at a ceremony held at the airport's passenger terminal on Wednesday. This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizu's commitment to implementing the service within the first 100 days of his administration.

With the introduction of smart gate services, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags will be used instead of the previously used red stickers to mark luggage requiring further inspection upon arrival. Passengers with luggage tagged with RFID technology must proceed to the Red Channel for customs clearance. Attempting to leave without clearance triggers the smart gate to sound an alarm.

The implementation of smart gate technology will improve service efficiency and save time for passengers.
