Amendment proposed to cap number of political appointees

An amendment has been proposed to the Constitution such that the Parliament decides the number of government ministries and political employees appointed to the ministries.

Galolhu North MP Eva Abdulla proposed the amendment to Article 116 of the Constitution.

According to the amendment, the number of ministries created by the government and their mandate must be submitted to the Parliament within seven days of the ministry's creation for Parliament approval. Furthermore, the amendment requires the President to submit to Parliament the number of political employees required for the work of government ministries within 14 days from the date of the ministry's establishment.
