Germany has overtaken India to become the fifth-largest tourism source market of the Maldives.
According to the Tourism Ministry, as of the fifth of this month, the Maldives welcomed 28,674 tourists from Germany, constituting 6.5 percent of the total 443,128 arrivals this year.
While India held the top spot in tourism arrivals last year, this year witnessed a decline in Indian arrivals, with only 28,017 Indian tourists visiting the Maldives thus far.
Despite this tip in Indian arrivals, the total number of tourists visiting the Maldives has seen a notable 15.9 percent increase over the same period last year. The largest number of tourists are now coming from China, with 55,641 Chinese tourists having visited the country thus far this year. Additionally, Russia, Italy, and the UK remain prominent contributors to Maldives' tourism, with 43,382, 42,484, and 39,960 tourists respectively.
