Pres Dr. Muizzu calls for truthful campaigning ahead of Ramadan

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged all to avoid propagating lies during the parliamentary election campaign.

Speaking to the residents of Lh. Naifaru on Saturday, President Dr. Muizzu said while the holy month of Ramadan is approaching, one must refrain from speaking untruths. He encouraged to adopt a parliamentary campaign characterized by civility and integrity.

Highlighting the teachings of the Quran which advocate for honesty and truthfulness, the president said while many things can be done to develop the country, it is personal purification and development of the people that will bring collective peace to the nation.

Addressing concerns about misinformation, The President said that an unregistered website believed to be run by Maldivians continues to publish untrue articles criticizing the President and the government. Such actions should be avoided, he said. The President further described Ramadan as an opportunity for self-reflection and reform and urged everyone to embrace the opportunity to bring about positive changes.

Speaking on the upcoming parliamentary election, the president asked people to elect candidates of the ruling party PNC to achieve the government goals and aspirations of the people. Reiterating his commitments to Naifaru, he said 80 plots of land would be allocated from the island, and a 400 housing units project would be implemented. He also said that 45 hectares of land will be dredged from Naifuaru lagoon to find a permanent solution to the housing problem faced by the islanders.
