The Maldives aims to host the world's largest tourism fair, the ITB Fair in 2026, Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced.
Speaking to reporters following the Maldives' participation in this year's ITB Fair, Minister Faisal said the Maldives is the most popular tourism destination in the world. Therefore, hosting the world's largest tourism fair in the Maldives is a prime objective, he said.
Minister Faisal stated that the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) will meet with tourism stakeholders to discuss preparations for hosting the 2026 ITB Fair. Acknowledging the substantial costs associated with hosting such an event, Faisal called for collective efforts to achieve the goal.
The host country of the ITB Fair has the opportunity to hold the opening ceremony and other activities at the event. The Maldives hosted the 2016 ITB Fair.
