Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has stated that the Maldives expects to welcome its two millionth tourist for the year on Thursday.
Speaking to the state media, Minister Faisal said based on current arrival trends, the Maldives will reach its goal of hosting two million tourists this year on December 26.
Latest statistics by the Tourism Ministry show the Maldives has already surpassed last year’s arrival numbers by nine percent. The current average for daily tourist arrivals is 6,000.

India - 126,000 arrivals

Switzerland - 39,000 arrivals
The Maldives has 1,262 registered tourism establishments offering a total of 63,118 tourist beds. This includes 172 resorts, 920 guest houses, 155 safaris, and 15 hotels.
