Application opens for couples seeking state assistance for IVF, IUI

Application is now open for couples seeking financial support for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) treatments under the Aasandha, national health insurance scheme.

In an announcement on Saturday, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) asked those who need state assistance for IUI and IVF under Aasandha to submit their applications before May 15.

According to the announcement, state assistance will be allocated to 100 eligible couples based on predefined criteria and a points system. IVF treatments will be facilitated abroad and covered by Aasandha.

Aasandha has previously issued its policy and guidelines on providing assistance to people who require IVF. According to the policy, couples must have been married for a minimum of three years to be eligible for IVF assistance through Aasandha. They can apply for assistance up to three times, provided they have not already undergone three rounds of IVF at their own expense.

According to the policy, IVF can be covered under Aasandha for women aged 30-41 years, with the age of their spouse not exceeding 55 years. However, exceptions may be made, such as when a specialist recommends IVF for a woman to women above age of 25 due to health concerns.

Furthermore, individuals with medically diagnosed infertility issues or those who have been unable to conceive naturally for three years without a known cause may also qualify for IVF assistance. Applicants are required to cease smoking six months before applying for IVF treatment through Aasandha.

Covering IVF treatment under Aasandha is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
