The Maldives Zakat House disbursed over MVR 740,000 in February to provide medical treatment to those in need, as reported by the organization.
According to the figures released by the Zakat House, this assistance benefitted a total of 69 individuals.
Breakdown of medical assistance:
Cancer treatments - MVR 245,948.50 (29.6 percent)
Transplant procedures - MVR 76,329.00 (9.2 percent)
Heart surgeries - MVR 16,962.00 (two percent)
Brain surgeries - MVR 16,962.00 (two percent)
Other expenses - MVR 473,746.00 (57.1 percent)
An additional MVR 12,750.00 was spent as assistance to those in need of assistance due to special circumstances.
The Zakat Fund said the expenditure in February included the expenses for individuals whose assistance arrangements were finalized in January.
In addition to medical assistance, MVR 374,950.28 was spent under the Zakat Fund on various religious programs, MVR 192,432.81 on salaries of administrative staff, and MVR 93,761.61 on meetings and seminars.
