Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Mutthalib has said the Gulhifalhu dredging project commenced by the former government is expected to reach completion within the upcoming month.
The second phase of the dredging project commenced on July 2 last year, during the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Leading Dutch dredging company, Boskalis, was awarded the project to dredge 150 hectares of land for Euro 120 million (USD 2 billion).
Providing an update at a press conference held on Wednesday regarding the ongoing works by the Construction Ministry, Minister Dr. Mutthalib disclosed that as of this Sunday, a total of 127.9 hectares have been successfully dredged from Gulhifalhu.
Highlighting the pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the official launch of the Fushidhiggaru dredging project on December 18 last year to expand Gulhifalhu by an extra 85 hectares, Minister Dr. Mutthalib said the preparations to dredge this portion will commence upon the completion of the ongoing dredging project.
