STELCO expresses concern over theft of transformer parts

STELCO has disclosed that recent power outages in Hulhumale were caused by vandalism to transformers and theft of some transformer parts.

STELCO's Managing Director Hussain Fahmy Friday said the company's substations were forcibly accessed by breaking the locks, and transformers were switched off. Various components of the transformers were stolen during the incident. The matter has been reported to the police for investigation.

Fahmy emphasized that such actions pose significant risks to the individuals carrying them out, and also hinder STELCO's efforts to ensure uninterrupted electricity services round the clock.

Fahmy urged the relevant authorities to crack down on such perpetrators and called to take action against those who purchase stolen goods.
