The Utility Regulatory Authority has instructed public service providers to cap water and electricity bills during Ramadan.
The Utility Regulatory Authority said the public has to spend a significant amount on their domestic electricity bills during the month of Ramadan. Therefore, the authority has decided to bill the electricity and water services for March this year at rates equivalent to those of an average normal month. This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's commitment to addressing the concerns of the public regarding the matter.
The Utility Regulatory Authority said the average monthly consumption of electricity and water is calculated after excluding the amounts for high-demand months such as Ramadan last year. The authority added that all utility companies have been instructed to include the amount for the March bill, the Ramadan discount, and the average consumption amount during a typical month when billing the customer.
