Maldives Zakat House allocates US$100,000 for Gaza aid

The Maldives government has decided to donate $100,000 from the Maldives Zakat Fund to aid Gaza, Palestine. The decision was announced by Islamic Miniter, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

The humanitarian assistance will be channeled to Gaza through the Qatari Red Crescent. The Islamic Ministry has already sent aid to Gaza twice through the Qatari Red Crescent.

Islamic Minister Dr. Shaheem said the US$100,000 will be sent to Gaza over two installments.

"These funds are being sent to spend on food for the people of Gaza. This is being done under the direction of His Excellency the President," he said.

This is the first time that funds are being allocated overseas from the Maldives' Zakat Fund.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration had previously pledged two million tuna cans as aid to support the Palestinian people. However, logistical challenges have delayed the delivery of this aid.
