Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) will be bringing in additional laborers to expedite the completion of 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme.
FDC's Managing Director, Hamdhaan Shakeel said in a post on X today that he is frequently asked regarding the completion date of the flats. While the aim is to complete the flats and hand them over by the end of the year despite the challenges the project faces, 250 additional laborers will be added to the workforce this month to expedite the progress, he said.
Hamdhaan said once the structure of the buildings is completed, skilled labor will be hired instead of unskilled labor for the finishing work. With the additional workers, the number of laborers involved in the project will reach 3,000, he said.
Hamdhaan had earlier disclosed that the government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih did not include essential components such as connecting the towers to the power grid and security systems within the project's scope. In addition, the GPON system required for internet and other media connections, waste disposal systems, and landscaping works were also excluded. While an additional MVR 454.4 million is required to complete the work, FDC is working closely with the government to arrange the funds, he had said.
