VIA records surge in int'l flight movement in first quarter

International flight movement at Maldives' main airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) has increased in the first three months of this year.

Data from the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) reveals that international flight movements reached 4,628 during the initial three months of this year, compared to 4,536 recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Of the 4,141 international flight movements in the first three months of this year, 4,141 were scheduled and cargo flights, while 487 flights were chartered and private jet flights.

A total of 604,004 tourists visited the Maldives in the first three months of the year. This is a 15 percent increase over the 523,928 tourists who visited during the same period last year.
