A resort employee at Centara Resort in ADh. Atoll has drowned while attempting to save a tourist in distress.
The Maldives Police Service reported that they received information about the incident at approximately 11:05 AM. The 39-year-old resort employee was taken to ADh. Dhangethi Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
"We are investigating this incident," the police said in a statement to the media.
The Maldives is currently experiencing severe weather conditions, including extremely rough seas.
