The Maldives Foreign Ministry has reassured the public that Maldivians traveling to neighbouring Sri Lanka would not face any difficulties despite changes brought to tourist visa arrangements for Maldivians traveling to the country.
The Foreign Ministry issued the clarification in response to public confusion regarding the changes.
The ministry said Maldivians will continue to receive a 30-day tourist visa free of charge upon arrival in Sri Lanka. Those intending to stay longer can apply for an e-visa online. However, an administrative fee will be charged for arranging a six-month visa. A ministry official said discussions are underway to remove the fee.
The Foreign Ministry said that Maldivians in Sri Lanka wishing to extend their visas can do so with the assistance of the Maldivian High Commission in Colombo.
