Nazil elected as MDP's Parliamentary Group Leader

Hithadhoo South Constituency MP-elect Ibrahim Nazil has been elected as the Parliamentary Group Leader of the main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

With this, Nazil will become the minority leader of the 20th Parliament to be sworn in tomorrow.

Nazil previously served as the MP for Hithadhoo South in the 19th Parliament and was one of the two candidates who won seats in Addu City in the last parliamentary elections on the MDP ticket.

The MDP also elected Vaikaradhoo-re-elect Hussain Ziyad, and Maradhoo MP-elect Ahmed Didi as Deputy Leaders of the parliamentary group.

Meanwhile, Galolhu North MP-elect Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudoo) was elected as the Secretary General, and Maavashu MP-elect Ahmed Shakir was elected as the Deputy Secretary General. Thoddoo MP-elect Hussain Sameer was elected as the Chief Whip, while Keyodhoo MP-elect Mohamed Niushad and Kanditheemu MP-elect Ameen Faisal were also elected as Whips.

The MDP parliamentary group consists of 12 members.

The ruling Peoples' National Congress (PNC) has secured a clear majority in the upcoming parliament and has elected Inguraidhoo MP-elect Ibrahim Falah as its parliamentary group leader.
