The number of international flight movements at Maldives' main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) has increased during the first four months of this year.
According to statistics released by the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), international flight movements increased by 2.4 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period last year. The number of international flight movements reached 5,982 by the end of April this year, up from 5,841 during the same period last year.
Statistics show that as of April this year, 5,378 flight movements were scheduled flights, while 604 were charter and private flights.
A total of 768,361 tourists visited the MAldives as of the end of April this year.
