The Homeland Ministry has disclosed that the state has not received over MVR 1.7 billion in fees for foreign workers in the Maldives.
In an announcement, the ministry stated that fees and penalties for 102,807 foreign workers, registered under 10,619 employers as per the Employment Act and the Foreigners Employment Regulations, remain unpaid. The total outstanding amount is MVR 1.76 billion.
The ministry has asked employers to settle all pending fees and penalties by the 18th of this month. Employers who fail to comply by the deadline will be publicly named, and they will face suspensions through the expat system, including a halt on the issuance of new permits, the ministry warned.
