Inflation rate in the Maldives rises in May

The inflation rate for goods and services in the Maldives has seen an increase in May, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS).

Overall, prices rose by 1.51 percent in May compared to April, and by 0.77 percent compared to the same period last year. Excluding changes in fish prices, the inflation rate stood at 1.69 percent in May.

Price increases were recorded in the following sectors:
- Electricity: 37.44 percent
- Supply water: 45.70 percent
- Meat: 0.54 percent

Meanwhile, prices for fruits and vegetables, as well as fish, saw a decrease. Fruit prices fell by 4.17 percent, vegetables by 0.84 percent and fish prices dropped by 1.91 percent.

Additionally, air transportation prices fell by 2.71 percent, while prices of fuels and lubricants used for vehicles decreased by 4.33 percent.
