FAM ordered to repay US$20k in latest Civil Court ruling

The Civil Court has ordered the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) to repay $20,000 it took from a private person within 10 days. This marks the second such verdict against the FAM in a week, following an earlier judgment to pay for $50,000 over a bounced cheque.

The latest ruling also pertains to a bounced check issued to repay money borrowed from a private individual last year. The verdict was handed down in the absence of the FAM representatives. The judge ordered FAM to pay the amount owed and MVR 27,000 spent in legal fees, within 10 days from Monday.

FAM and its President, Bassam Adeel Jaleel, have been involved in numerous financial controversies. Bassam currently faces multiple criminal charges related to embezzlement of FAM funds, and FIFA has suspended him amid the pending cases.
