Roadmap being drawn up to address FAM’s debt crisis

A roadmap is being developed to resolve the debt situation faced by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

This comes after FIFA suspended FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel for nine months form all football-related activities due to allegations of corruption and money laundering. In response, FIFA decided to hand over the management of the FAM to a normalization committee in July this year and entrusted the committee to recover funds lost to corruption and resolve FAM’s debt issue.

A FIFA delegation is currently in the Maldives to assist the FAM Normalization Committee in its efforts to improve the association's debt situation. An FAM official confirmed that a road map is being prepared to help normalize the association.

FIFA has given the normalization committee until July next year to resolve the FAM's debt problems.
