Footballer Yaya Touré to take part in FAM event in Maldives

Famed footballer from Ivory Coast, Yaya Touré will be arriving in Maldives on Wednesday on the invitation of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM).

Touré is visiting the Maldives to take part in an event being held to mark the FAM Exco Anniversary. Bassam Adeel Jaleel was elected as FAM president in November 2016.

While Wednesday marks the completion of his term, a football festival in which 600 children will be taking part will be held to celebrate the end of his third year as president. Kids will have the chance to meet and take part in various football activities with Touré.

In a video publicized by FAM, Touré said he is delighted to take part in the football project being headed by Bassam. The event will be held Friday evening at the National Stadium from 1600hrs to 1800hrs.

Touré, who previously played for premier league team Manchester City, and Spanish team Barcelona was voted African Footballer of the Year for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. He played over 100 matches for Barcelona during his time at the club. He currently plays for a second division team of China league, Qingdao Huanghai Football Club.
