Maldives sees rise in inflation in July

Prices of goods and services in the Maldives have seen an increase in July this year.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) showed that inflation rose by 1.43 percent in July this year compared to the same month last year. When compared to June this year, there was a 0.10 percent increase, with a slightly higher figure of 0.30 percent when excluding changes in fish prices.

Inflation was observed in various categories:

Fish: 2.06 percent
Vegetables: 2.11 percent
Milk, eggs and dairy products: 0.82 percent
Air transportation: 0.28 percent

Meanwhile, the prices of some goods and services saw a decline. Mobile communication services saw a 2.10 percent decrease, while fruit prices fell by 0.86 percent. Additionally, the report noted slight decreases in the prices of electricity, down 0.23 percent, and water supply, down 0.57 percent, in July.

This is the third consecutive month of rising inflation, following similar increases recorded in both May and June of this year.
