Two former senior judges have expressed interest in applying for the position of Prosecutor General (PG).
The post of Prosecutor General became vacant after the dismissal of PG Hussain Shameem, who had already resigned from the position before the Parliament officially approved his removal on August 22. The President's Office opened the opportunity for those interested in applying for the post of Prosecutor General to apply by this Wednesday.
AVAS has learned that Abbas Shareef, the Secretary to the President on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in the President’s Office, and former senior Criminal Court judge Ahmed Hailam have both cleared their criminal records to apply for the vacant Prosecutor General position.
Abbas previously served as a High Court judge, while Hailam held a position in the Prosecutor General’s Office before becoming a Criminal Court Judge.
Additionally, it has been reported that former President Abdulla Yameen's lawyer Adam Shameem has also cleared his criminal record to run for the post.
