Pres Dr. Muizzu departs on first State Visit to India

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have departed on a state visit to the India. This marks the President’s first state visit to India since assuming office last November.

The state visit, from 6 to 10 October 2024, is at the official invitation of the Indian President, Droupadi Murmu. President Dr. Muizzu departed to India from Velana International Airport at 12 pm aboard an Indian Airforce plane.

During this visit, the President will engage in high-level meetings with President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other senior officials of the Indian government.

President Dr. Muizzu met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time since taking office in December 2023 on the sidelines of COP-28 in the UAE. President Muizzu also met the Prime Minister and President of India on June 9 this year when he traveled to India the swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi for a third term.

The President’s Office said President Dr. Muizzu is accompanied by a high-level delegation of the Maldivian government during his first visit to India. The Government of India is overseeing all the hospitality arrangements for the Maldivian delegation during their stay.
