President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the government's plans to develop an airport in Alif Alif Mathiveri next year.
Addressing Mathiveri residents as part of his ongoing tour to several islands in Kaafu and Alif Alif atolls, the president announced that the project has been included in the pipeline for next year. The decision was driven by the lack of an airport in an atoll where tourism is expanding, with multiple resorts and local guesthouses. Vaavu Atoll is another region facing similar challenges, he noted.
The president also revealed plans to transfer the operation of the 50-room guesthouse operated in Mathiveri island by former Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir, Casa Mia, to the people of Mathiveri.
President Dr. Muizzu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to prioritizing the most impactful development projects for the country's citizens. While this year's budget posed challenges in achieving the goal due to budget constraints, next year's budget will focus on fulfilling pledges made to the people, he added.
