The Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has been abolished, with some of its functions transferred to other ministries.

As part of a significant Cabinet reshuffle announced on Thursday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has transferred the ministry’s planning functions to the Finance Ministry, renaming the ministry as Ministry of Finance and Planning. The newly expanded ministry will continue to be headed by Finance Minister, Moosa Zameer.

Meanwhile, housing and infrastructure-related functions of the Housing Ministry have been merged with the Construction and Infrastructure Ministry, now renamed as Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure. The ministry will now be overseen by Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib.

Former Housing Minister Dr Ali Haidhar Ahmed has been reassigned as the Minister of Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development. Meanwhile, Mariyam Mariya, who previously served as the Minister of Higher Education, has been appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

With the change in the cabinet, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu re-appointed the ministers to the ministries today. The government did not comment on why the cabinet was reshuffled.
