Defence Minister to undertake official visit to India

An Indian media has reported that Maldives Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon will be undertaking an official visit to the country.

According to India’s WION News, Ghassan will travel to India from January 7 to 8. This will be Ghassan’s first visit to India since assuming office in November 2023.

WION News reported that the Maldives Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has confirmed the Defence Minister’s visit. The Foreign MInister said both countries will engage in discussions on strengthening bilateral relations during the Defense Minister’s visit to India.

When President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, the relationship between India and Maldives was strained. However, after the President undertook an official visit to India, the bond between both countries have been enhancing day by day.
