MVR 2.6 million for damaged homes

  • - 47 in temporary shelter
  • - MVR 50,000 per day for all in temporary shelters
  • - 35 to be shifted to permanent housing soon

Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said that the state would provide MVR 2.6 million as assistance for those families who were affected by the Coast Line Hardware fire.

Speaking in a press conference held in Coast Guard building, regarding those individuals in temporary shelters due to the fire, Minister Adam Shareef said that currently 47 were housed in temporary shelters. He said out of that 35 individuals were housed there due to a wall near Coast Line Hardware. He added that once the wall was demolished, the 35 individuals can be transferred home.

Minister Adam Shareef said that the state was spending over MVR 50,000 a day on expenses for the 47 people in housed in guesthouses. He added that the damages from the fire have now been valued and that the state would provide 40 percent of the finances needed to recover the losses.

"We worked to provide the best care to all in temporary housing, irrespective of costs. The state would provide MVR 2.6 million to the homes. The one million pledged by Coast Line will also be distributed equally. We hope to finalize the payments by this Friday," Adam Shareef said.

He added that renovation on the damaged homes are scheduled to be finished within two months. Once completed, the Minister said the individuals will be able to move back to their homes.
