President to request the Supreme Court to speed up Nasheed's Case

The President has announced that he will make a request to the Supreme Court to quickly make a decision regarding former President Mohamed Nasheed's case.

The President announced his decision to make the request during a speech he gave to the people of L.Gan on an official visit. Speaking more on this matter, President Yaameen said that one of the factors contributing to his decision was the responsibility that the Constitution places upon him.

During the speech, the President said that one of the main reasons that the inter-party conference hasn't made any headway was because that no final decision had been made regarding President Nasheed's case. Furthermore, the President also said that the UN had appealed to the president himself, to urge the Supreme Court to make a decision on Nasheed's case.

The President said that though he hasn't made a request to the Supreme Court yet, he will make a formal and official request through the legal system. The President also added that it was the obligation of the Judiciary to follow the accorded guidelines and come to a fair decision concerning Nasheed's case.

President Yaameen spoke about his distaste in getting involved in judicial cases and problems saying that he will not interfere with the judicial justice process. However, he said that the constitution obliges him to formally request that the court cases be hastened if they are dragged out and justice is delayed.

The President announced that he would formally make a request to the Supreme Court as soon as he returns to Male'.
